5. Opportunity to leave the country
While Russians joke about “it’s impossible to leave Omsk,” if there’s one thing that’s impossible to leave unhindered, it’s North Korea. Any overseas travel by a North Korean must be approved by the government. Many people have died trying to escape this country. The few that do make it out usually pay a third party to smuggle out of the country. If caught, both the fugitive and his entire family may be sent to a “reformatory camp” or even killed.
